Namaste,
Thanks for visiting the Y.A.MAS website.
Since I became certified to teach yoga and opened up a studio, I have wondered why we don't get together in the local yoga community to do lend support, offer advice, seek counsel and share concerns or class-related questions. I have been teaching at high school and college level for nearly two decades and have attended weekly or monthly meetings with peers for just that purpose. I thought it would be nice to have the same opportunities available to yoga instructors and students who may be considering teaching yoga in the future. I wanted to create a very relaxed atmosphere where students and teachers could ask questions, get advice, share success stories and study the yoga sutras. We are so lucky to bring the gift of yoga to our students, I think it would be very beneficial for us to improve on our teaching with the help of our fellow yogis.
The Yoga Amistad of Massachusetts will meet periodically to discuss any issues, concerns, discoveries, questions, and enlightening stories that may arise in our classes. Chances are if something came up for one of us in class which brought up some concern, it has most likely happened to someone else. This is a place to talk about anything that will benefit other teachers and students and help provide safe, fun, enjoyable instruction.
Our first meeting was held on November 18th and it was very helpful to everyone. The next time we meet we will be working on adjustments, continuing our discussion of teaching the yamas in class and sharing Q and A with our fellow yogis.
